Issyk-Kul, Sept. 04, 2026. /Kabar/. A traditional archery competition is being held in the Kyrchyn Gorge as part of the VI World Nomad Games.
Kyrgyz archer Almaz Zhunusov took first place in target archery at distances of 40 and 70 meters.
According to him, in the individual competition he competed with representatives of Malaysia, Mongolia, Hungary and Kazakhstan.
"Kazakh archers are strong, and Mongolian archers are world champions. Nevertheless, I am happy to take first place among them. This competition was special for me," he said.
According to the chief judge of the competition, Ishaq Tokonov, traditional archery is held in three categories - Kyrgyz, Turkish and Korean targets.
Kyrgyz target archery is held at a distance of 40 meters at a goat-shaped target. Men shoot at a distance of 70 meters on the Turkish target, and women shoot at a distance of 60 meters. Both men and women compete at a distance of 145 meters on the Korean target.
In total, 196 archers from 51 countries are participating in the competition - 115 men and 81 women. Today is the last day of the competition, and the 145-meter distance competition will be held.
VI World Nomad Games held in Kyrgyzstan from August 31 to September 6, 2026. The opening ceremony took place on August 31 at the Bishkek Arena stadium in the capital. The games will be held in the Issyk-Kul region from September 1 to 6, and more than 3,000 athletes from 109 countries will participate.
