Bishkek, Feb. 20, 2025. /Kabar/. The Fourth Global Conference on Road Safety is being held in Marrakesh (Morocco), the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The event summed up the interim results of the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety (2011–2030), proclaimed by the UN General Assembly. The conference is organized by the Kingdom of Morocco and the World Health Organization.
The conference provides an opportunity for representatives of various countries to exchange experiences, discuss the results achieved and existing problems, and identify further steps to improve road safety. About 2.5 thousand delegates from 193 countries are taking part in the conference, including heads and representatives of government agencies, international organizations, civil society, the scientific community and the media.
The delegation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan is headed by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Oktyabr Urmambetov, and included representatives of the Main Directorate of the Road Safety Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.
During the conference, representatives of Kyrgyzstan held a number of meetings with international partners. In particular, a meeting was held with Minister of Transport and Logistics of Morocco Abdessamad Kayouh, negotiations with Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan Oktay Asker oglu Kerimov, during which issues of cooperation in the field of road safety were discussed.
Kyrgyzstan, like other countries, has committed to achieving the global goals of sustainable development. In order to ensure road safety and reduce the level of road traffic injuries and fatalities by 30% by 2027, the National Road Safety Strategy for 2023-2027 was adopted. As part of its implementation, the road safety management system is being improved, infrastructure is being modernized, measures are being taken to prevent violations and increase the effectiveness of response to road accidents.
