Bishkek, May 20, 2026 /Kabar/. Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibrayev visited the Besh-Burkhan coal mine, located in Nookat district of Osh region, and inspected the progress of production work on site. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic.
During his working visit, the minister received information about the mine's production capacity, the coal mining process, safety measures, underground mining operations, and the state of the production infrastructure. In addition, they discussed increasing coal production volumes, creating new jobs, and expanding the region's industrial potential.
"The deposit is located in the Nookat district of the Osh region and covers a total area of 317.2 hectares. Of these, 7 hectares are allocated for the production site. According to geological data, the total coal reserves at the deposit amount to 42.225 million tons.
All costs associated with the project are being financed by the investor. $25 million has been attracted. These funds are being used to create the mine's infrastructure, conduct underground production operations, and deploy modern equipment.
According to the technical design, the project plans to produce up to 900,000 tons of coal per year. Once the project reaches full capacity, 80 new jobs will be created for local residents," the ministry reported.
In 2025, 5,000 tons of coal were mined as a by-product during mining and capital work.
Taalaibek Ibrayev noted that the development of the coal industry is a key area for ensuring the country's energy security.
He also emphasized the need to pay special attention to compliance with industrial safety requirements, the implementation of modern technologies, and strict adherence to environmental standards.
Currently, work continues at the mine to expand its production infrastructure, strengthen its technical base, and gradually increase coal production volumes.
