Kyrgyz Health Ministry and UN system strengthen their partnership in healthcare

Bishkek, April 2, 2026 /Kabar/. Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan Damir Osmonov met with the UN Resident Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan, Antje Grawe, the ministry's press service said.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation in the field of medicine. The minister noted that for over 30 years, the UN system has provided comprehensive support to Kyrgyzstan in implementing national priorities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. Currently, cooperation is successfully implemented within the framework of the Framework Program for 2023-2027, which covers key areas of the social sector.

Damir Osmonov expressed gratitude to his international partners for their contributions to strengthening epidemiological surveillance, developing laboratory services, enhancing emergency preparedness, and preventing various diseases.

The parties focused on priorities for further cooperation. These included:

- Human capital development (training and retaining personnel, especially in the regions);

- Digitalization of healthcare;

- Strengthening the fight against non-communicable diseases.

The impact of climate factors on public health, including air pollution, was also discussed. The need for intersectoral collaboration and the development of a healthy lifestyle culture was emphasized. Particular emphasis was placed on the transition to a patient-centered model, which aims to improve the quality of medical care, reduce bureaucratic barriers, and implement modern IT solutions.

Antje Grawe confirmed the readiness of UN agencies to further strengthen coordination to effectively support the Ministry of Health, including climate and human resources issues. The parties also discussed the development of a new cooperation program for the next period. The development process, including consultations with government agencies and an assessment of current results, will begin this year.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in deepening their partnership to improve the sustainability of Kyrgyzstan's healthcare system.
