Kyrgyz-Icelandic bilateral relations discussed in Geneva

Bishkek, Feb. 24, 2026/Kabar/. On February 23, 2026, on the sidelines of the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev met with Foreign Minister of Iceland Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir. According to Kyrgyz foreign ministry, the parties discussed prospects for the development of Kyrgyz-Icelandic bilateral relations, focusing on cooperation in trade, finance, climate initiatives, green energy, education, and investment.

Kulubaev invited Iceland to participate in the World Nomad Games in 2026 and the Second Global Mountain Summit "Bishkek+25" in 2027. Minister Gunnarsdóttir expressed keen interest in these events and confirmed her readiness to carefully consider proposals for cooperation.

Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to open dialogue and strengthening Kyrgyz-Icelandic relations, and agreed to establish political consultations and expand the legal framework.
