Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Marlen Mamataliev met with a delegation led by Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Togolese Republic Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé. According to the parliament's press service, during the meeting, held in the parliament building, the parties exchanged views on expanding bilateral ties, including discussing aspects of developing interparliamentary cooperation.
Mamataliev first congratulated the delegation led by Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé on Togolese Independence Day, celebrated two days ago, and wished them success on their historic first visit to Kyrgyzstan.
"We are confident that this visit will open a new chapter in Kyrgyz-Togolese cooperation and will contribute to the development of relations between our peoples. To successfully implement the agreements reached, we are also interested in developing interparliamentary partnership and intend to intensify interaction at the level of parliamentary friendship groups," he said.
The speaker also briefly touched on recent developments in Kyrgyzstan.
"I am aware that during your tenure as Togo's Minister of Infrastructure, Mines, Posts, and Telecommunications in the 2003s, you made a significant contribution to the development of the internet. "We are currently also paying special attention to digitalization policy. In this regard, we are ready to exchange experiences in this area," he added.
In turn, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, speaking about the opening of a new chapter in cooperation between the two countries, emphasized the fruitful nature of his visit to Kyrgyzstan, which he is conducting accompanied by nine ministers.
He also noted that Togo transitioned to a parliamentary form of government eighteen months ago.
"In this regard, parliamentary diplomacy plays a key role in interstate relations. We are interested in cooperating with the Kyrgyz parliament in all areas," he said.
At the same time, the parties noted the need to develop not only institutional ties but also strengthen contacts between citizens of the two countries.
