Bishkek, Sept. 24, 2026 /Kabar/. On September 23, Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan Damir Osmonov participated in the high-level event "From Global Reform to Country Leadership and Results on the Ground — Gavi Leap Dialogue," held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
According to the Ministry of Health, the event—organized by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, in partnership with the Government of Rwanda—brought together ministers, government representatives, and international partners to discuss issues of country leadership, sustainable financing, and improving the efficiency of health systems.
In his remarks, Damir Osmonov highlighted Gavi's significant contribution to the development of Kyrgyzstan's immunization system, including the introduction of new vaccines and the strengthening of protection for children against vaccine-preventable diseases.
"Kyrgyzstan is firmly committed to increasing state funding for the immunization program and enhancing national ownership of its outcomes. It is of fundamental importance to us to ensure a gradual, managed, and predictable transition period," Damir Osmonov emphasized. Cooperation with Gavi under the Gavi Leap initiative—which entails a combination of national co-financing and partner support—remains a key instrument in this transition.
Kyrgyzstan’s priorities include modernizing the cold chain, digitizing vaccine tracking, and constructing a national vaccine warehouse. Concurrently, the country is finalizing its national application for the Gavi 6.0 cycle (2026–2030), aligned with the State Immunoprophylaxis Program for 2025–2030.
At the same time, challenges persist, including the risk of measles outbreaks, workforce constraints, and the need to extend vaccination coverage to migrant workers as well as mobile and hard-to-reach population groups. Kyrgyzstan looks forward to continued technical cooperation, expert exchanges, and strategic dialogue with Gavi to address these issues.
The agency noted that Kyrgyzstan’s participation in the Gavi Leap dialogue has served as a vital platform for advancing national priorities and further strengthening the immunization partnership, aimed at sustaining achievements and developing a resilient public health protection system.
