Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan strengthen cooperation in transport

Bishkek, Sept. 16, 2026. /Kabar/. Kyrgyz Minister of Transport and Communications Talantbek Soltobaev met with Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Abylkair Skakov, the press service of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Transport and Communications reported.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of bilateral cooperation in transport, the expansion of transit and multimodal transport corridors, the simplification of border crossing procedures, and the reduction of administrative barriers for freight carriers.

Talantbek Soltobaev congratulated Abylkair Skakov on his appointment as ambassador and emphasized the importance of further developing cooperation between the two countries in transport.

Particular attention was paid to the construction of an alternative road between Almaty and Issyk-Kul. The Kyrgyz side proposed completing a feasibility study for the project, which is being developed with the support of the Asian Development Bank.

Furthermore, the implementation of the e-Permit electronic permit system between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan was discussed.

The parties also discussed the development of passenger transportation, reducing the time required to process passengers and baggage at checkpoints, and the implementation of electronic document management.

Following the meeting, the parties expressed their willingness to continue working together to strengthen cooperation in the transport sector and implement projects significant to both countries.
