Kyrgyzstan and Slovenia sign agreement on visa-free travel for diplomats

Bishkek, Oct. 16, 2025 /Kabar/. At the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon, Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev paid an official visit to Slovenia on October 16.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the heads of the foreign ministries confirmed the parties' openness and readiness to further deepen their mutually beneficial partnership based on the universal principles of international law. A wide range of topical issues, including cooperation in the political, trade, economic, investment, cultural, and humanitarian spheres, were discussed in narrow and expanded formats.

The parties emphasized the importance of strengthening interparliamentary cooperation. In this context, Foreign Minister Kulubaev spoke about the upcoming parliamentary elections, emphasizing the country's commitment to holding open, democratic, and competitive elections in accordance with national legislation and international obligations. He invited the Slovenian side to send representatives to the parliamentary elections as international observers.

In turn, Slovenian Foreign Minister Tamara Fajon, praising the democratic achievements of the Kyrgyz Republic, wished the country success in the parliamentary elections.

The parties expressed their intention to intensify cooperation in such important sectors as energy, the green economy, innovation, agriculture, and tourism. In this context, the importance of holding the first meeting of the Kyrgyz-Slovenian Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was emphasized, which is intended to give further impetus to the development of mutually beneficial trade, economic, investment, cultural, and humanitarian ties. Kulubaev and Fajon agreed to expand cooperation in science and education, as well as support joint research projects in priority areas.

Noting the importance of preserving and developing cultural diversity as a crucial element of sustainable and peaceful coexistence among peoples, the Kyrgyz side announced the Sixth World Nomad Games, which will be held in Bishkek in 2026, and invited Slovenia to actively participate.

To jointly promote sustainable mountain development issues internationally, the Kyrgyz side invited Slovenia to the Second Global Mountain Summit "Bishkek+25," scheduled to be held in Bishkek in 2027.

The ministers exchanged views on international and regional issues and discussed the two countries' cooperation within various international organizations and regional associations, including the UN, OSCE, and the EU. Following the visit, the parties signed an Agreement on mutual visa waiver for holders of diplomatic passports of the two countries, as well as a Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia for 2026-2027.
