Bishkek, April 18, 2025. /Kabar/. Approval of the National Interpretation Document (NID) for GLOBALG.A.P. version 6 for the fresh fruit and vegetable sector a major milestone in enhancing the country’s export potential and strengthening the global presence of Kyrgyz agricultural products, UNDP in Kyrgyzstan said in its press release.
The GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat’s endorsement of the NID of Kyrgyzstan reflects the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, national business representatives, industry associations, and international experts. This achievement was made possible with technical assistance from UNDP Aid for Trade Project, funded by the Government of Finland.
The adoption of the NID contributes directly to the goals of the National Development Program of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2026 and supports the implementation of the Presidential Decree “On Measures for the Further Development of the Agro-Industrial Complex of the Kyrgyz Republic.” These national strategies aim to modernize the agro-industrial sector, improve competitiveness, and ensure that local products meet international standards.
“The development and approval of the National Interpretation Document for GLOBALG.A.P. are the result of our sustained efforts to create favorable conditions for Kyrgyz agricultural products to access global markets. This document is a valuable tool for helping producers improve quality and competitiveness. With the support of our development partners, the Ministry will continue working to promote high-quality agricultural products from Kyrgyzstan abroad,” said Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The NID tailors the GLOBALG.A.P. international standard to Kyrgyzstan’s unique agro-climatic, technological, and regulatory conditions. This localization ensures the requirements are more accessible and practical for farmers and exporters, while encouraging the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices and broadening international market access.
“The adoption of this document marks a crucial step in integrating Kyrgyz agro-producers into international markets. It opens the door to more profitable market segments and contributes to sustainable economic growth through the development of efficient value chains. UNDP remains committed to supporting Kyrgyzstan in building a modern, competitive agro-industrial sector,” - said Alexandra Solovieva, UNDP Resident Representative in Kyrgyzstan.
By aligning with international standards on product quality and safety, Kyrgyz producers can enhance their credibility with foreign partners and increase the competitiveness of their exports. Importantly, the localized NID makes compliance more understandable and attainable for farmers, facilitating practical implementation on the ground.
UNDP will continue working with government institutions, businesses, and producers to support Kyrgyzstan’s integration into global value chains and advance sustainable agricultural development.
