Bishkek, March 31, 2026 /Kabar/. The Seventh Global Mountain Partnership Meeting concluded in the Principality of Andorra, where Kyrgyzstan was represented by Dinara Kemelova, Special Presidential Representative for the Mountain Agenda, the presidential administration of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The Mountain Partnership is an alliance established in 2002, uniting more than 687 members, including 74 governments, to improve the lives of mountain communities and protect mountain ecosystems worldwide.

During the meeting, Kyrgyzstan actively promoted initiatives in the interests of mountain regions and was noted as a key supporter of the global mountain agenda. An exhibition of domestic mining products was also organized at the event.

On March 26, a high-level roundtable was held under the chairmanship of Andorran Foreign Minister Imma Thor Faus, attended by delegations from Armenia, Germany, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Montenegro, and Ecuador.

In her speech, Dinara Kemelova discussed the results of the Global Mountain Dialogue held in Bishkek in 2025, the initiatives announced by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, and upcoming important events, calling for the consolidation of efforts by mountain countries to advance the mountain agenda at global events.

At the panel session on climate, the Presidential Special Representative highlighted Kyrgyzstan's efforts to advance the mountain agenda internationally, including at UN climate change forums, and announced the date of the Second Global Mountain Summit "Bishkek+25" – October 21-23, 2027.

In partnership with the OSCE, Kyrgyzstan held a side event dedicated to discussing climate impacts on migration and security in mountain regions. Kemelova also served as the keynote speaker at the UNEP side event "Mountains for the Future: Responsible Tourism, Thriving Communities," presenting the implementation of the Five Years of Action for Mountain Development related to ecotourism and organic production in Kyrgyzstan.

As part of the Global Summit, a number of bilateral meetings were held with heads of delegations from mountain countries, as well as representatives of international organizations.

For example, at a meeting with Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisogomonyan, Kemelova proposed considering including mountain issues in the final decisions of the 17th Conference of the Parties on Biological Diversity, which will be held in Yerevan this October. Advancing the mountain agenda at the 17th Conference of the Parties to Combat Desertification was discussed with Zhambaltseren Tumur-Uya, State Secretary of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry of Mongolia.

Bilateral meetings were also held with Alicia Jaramillo Cabo, Vice Minister of Environment of Ecuador; Jimin Wu, Assistant Director-General/Director of Forestry at FAO; Julia Wolf, the new Coordinator of the Mountain Partnership Secretariat; Caroline Adler, Executive Director of the Mountain Research Initiative; representatives of the UNFCCC, CONDESAN, and other Mountain Partnership members.

At the final meeting, following the election results, Kyrgyzstan was re-elected to the Mountain Partnership Steering Committee for the next four years. The public organization "Anajita" from Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz organization "Camp Ala-Too" (alternate) were elected from among the Central Asian non-governmental organizations.

The steering committee members also unanimously elected Kyrgyzstan as the first vice-chair. Italy, the Mountain Partnership's main donor, retained its chair.

Following the meeting, the Mountain Partnership members adopted the Andorra Declaration, setting out a common agenda for the next four years.

"Mountains connect landscapes, peoples, and nations. They remind us that what happens higher up is felt lower down, and that resilience must be built together," said Andorran Foreign Minister Imma Thor Faus as she closed the seventh global meeting of the Mountain Partnership.
