Bishkek, May 14, 2026. /Kabar/. The 17th meeting of the Kyrgyz-German Intergovernmental Commission on citizens of German nationality residing in Kyrgyzstan took place in Bishkek.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the co-chairs were Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Meder Abakirov and the Commissioner of the Federal Government of the Federal Republic of Germany for Emigrants and National Minorities, Bernd Fabricius.
The meeting was attended by representatives of relevant government agencies from both countries, as well as the People's Council of Germans in Kyrgyz Republic and the German Humanitarian Aid Foundation.
Participants emphasized that the commission remains a key mechanism for bilateral cooperation, and that the German community living in Kyrgyzstan serves as a "bridge of friendship" between the two peoples.
During the meeting, the implementation of the agreements reached at the previous, 16th meeting was reviewed, and further steps to preserve the German language, culture, and national identity of ethnic Germans in Kyrgyzstan were outlined.
Special attention was given to supporting the People's Council of Germans in Kyrgyz Republic, the German Humanitarian Aid Foundation, and the Kyrgyz-German House of Friendship and Cooperation.
Particular attention was given to expanding the teaching of German in schools and universities in Kyrgyzstan, as well as developing academic exchanges through the DAAD and the Goethe-Institut.
Agreement was reached to support youth and entrepreneurial initiatives, including the activities of the Club of German and Kyrgyz-German Entrepreneurs, as well as to continue cultural, humanitarian, and scientific exchanges.
Following the meeting, a joint communiqué was signed, confirming the agreements reached and priorities for cooperation in the coming period.
