Bishkek, Aug. 24, 2026. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan held over 1,500 bilateral meetings in 2025-2026 as part of Kyrgyzstan's campaign to be elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028. Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev announced on August 24 at Thematic Board meeting of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, numerous mutual visits took place as part of the campaign, and the geography of diplomatic visits by Kyrgyz delegations significantly expanded, from Europe to Africa and from Oceania to the Caribbean and Latin America.
Furthermore, during this period, Kyrgyzstan established diplomatic relations with 15 countries. The country currently has diplomatic relations with 185 UN member states.
Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev noted that Kyrgyzstan's successful election was made possible by the personal support and coordination of President Sadyr Zhaparov, as well as the extensive mobilization of government and diplomatic resources.
Meeting participants reviewed the contributions of each Kyrgyz ambassador to the campaign and the country's successful election. However, criticism was expressed against some heads of missions abroad for their inactivity in promoting the country's candidacy.
Finally, participants discussed key areas of Kyrgyzstan's upcoming work in the UN Security Council and measures to strengthen its structural subdivisions. It was noted that work on the Security Council will require a high level of responsibility, professionalism, and high-quality practical results.
