Next CSTO Secretary General was named in Bishkek

Bishkek, Nov. 27, 2025. /Kabar/. Taalatbek Masadykov was approved as the Secretary General of the CSTO at regular meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council in Bishkek, Secretary General of the CSTO Imangali Tasmagambetov told.

As he noted, this decision will come into effect from January 1, 2026.

"Taalatbek Masadykov has been working as the Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO for two years. He has extensive experience in the field of security and international cooperation. I believe that the organization will develop dynamically thanks to his leadership," he said.

Current Secretary General of the CSTO is Imangali Tasmagambetov from Kazakhstan. Taalatbek Masadykov will replace him from January 1.

Biography of Taalatbek Masadykov:

Taalatbek Masadykov was born in 1961 in Besh-Kungoi village, Alamudun district, Chui region.

In 1978, he graduated from secondary school No. 13 in Frunze

In 1984, he graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations;

In 1984-1986, he served as a teacher at the Military Red Banner Institute of the USSR Ministry of Defense in Moscow;

In 1987, he was sent on a working trip to Afghanistan. He worked as a translator and specialist in tribal issues in the Soviet Advisory Group of the Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Border Affairs of Afghanistan;

In 1988-1991, he completed postgraduate studies in Moscow, continued his studies at the postgraduate department of the Iranian Philology Department of the Institute of Asian and African Countries at Lomonosov Moscow State University and defended his candidate's thesis;

In 1992-1994, he was engaged in private business in Moscow;

In 1995-1996, he was the Deputy Director General of the State Committee of Kyrgyzstan for Foreign Investment and Economic Assistance;

In 1997-1999, he was the Co-Dean and a teacher of the Faculty of International Relations of the American University in Kyrgyzstan;

In 2000, he applied for a doctorate at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE);

In 2002, he was invited to work for the United Nations (UN). He worked in Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan. He began his work as a political advisor to the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA);

In 2006, he was the Chief Political Advisor to the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA);

In 2009-2014, he was the Political Director of the UN Special Political Mission in Afghanistan;

In 2014, he returned to Kyrgyzstan and engaged in public activities;

In 2021, he was the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council.

Married, father of two sons and daughter.
