Bishkek, April 21, 2025. /Kabar/. The country's first ecological corridor named Ak Ilbirs(Snow Leopard), has been created in the Issyk-Kul region.
The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision reported that the ecological corridor covers large natural areas and is aimed at preserving biodiversity and protecting rare species of animals and plants. This corridor unites several protected natural sites, including the Khan-Tengri State Nature Park, the Sarychat-Ertash Nature Reserve and the Naryn Nature Reserve, with a total area of more than 792,000 hectares.
The main goal is to preserve natural complexes, ensure spatial and genetic unity of populations, protect the snow leopard and other rare species, and protect their natural migration routes.
The corridor has been given the special status of a specially protected natural area. The introduction of alien species, burning of vegetation, straightening of rivers, use of pesticides and other activities that disrupt natural ecosystems are prohibited on its territory.
At the same time, scientific research, environmental education, planting of forest crops, development of ecotourism and creation of ecological routes are allowed. The initiative was implemented with the support of the public foundation "Camp Ala-Too", which is also involved in developing the eco-corridor management plan and creating the necessary infrastructure.
