Kyrgyzstan participates in 20th EU-CA Ministerial Meeting in Ashgabat

Bishkek, March 28, 2025. /Kabar /. On March 27, 2025, the 20th EU-Central Asia Ministerial Meeting was held in Ashgabat, with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Meder Abakirov.

During the meeting, participants discussed key areas of cooperation, including economic connectivity, investment, sustainable development, environmental protection, education, and security.

Deputy Minister Abakirov provided an overview of the economic reforms being implemented in Kyrgyzstan and underscored the importance of developing transport corridors, strengthening economic ties, and attracting investment. He highlighted that Central Asia has all the necessary conditions to become a key hub for global trade and serve as a bridge between Europe and Asia.

Additionally, deputy foreign minister stressed the significance of joint projects in ecology and renewable energy, as well as the need for enhanced cooperation in education and innovation. In this context, he emphasized the importance of facilitating visa procedures and simplifying the regulations governing the stay of Kyrgyz citizens in European countries.

Particular attention was given to regional security issues, including the situation in Afghanistan. Deputy Minister Abakirov reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to the peaceful resolution of conflicts and hotspots worldwide, highlighting the necessity of coordinated efforts to combat cross-border threats.

Participants also exchanged views on preparations for the first EU-CA summit, scheduled to take place in April in Samarkand. They outlined concrete steps to strengthen political dialogue, economic partnerships, and humanitarian cooperation.

The same day, during his visit to Ashgabat, Deputy Minister Meder Abakirov also held a bilateral meeting with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, and took part in an event titled “International Year of Peace and Trust: Deepening Cooperation between Central Asia and the European Union.”
