Kyrgyzstan, Russia discuss cooperation in countering drug trafficking

Bishkek, May 20, 2026 /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan and Russia discussed cooperation in countering drug trafficking. This was announced during a meeting between Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Nurbek Abdiev and the head of the Main Directorate for Drug Control of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Ivan Gorbunov. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, the parties discussed bilateral cooperation in combating the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors, as well as measures to strengthen cooperation in the fight against transnational drug-related crime.

During the meeting, Nurbek Abdiev noted the high level of Kyrgyz-Russian cooperation, emphasizing the importance of working together both bilaterally and within international forums, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Council of Ministers of Internal Affairs of the CIS Member States, and the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Center.

It was noted that significant practical results have been achieved in the cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The parties emphasized the importance of further strengthening cooperation to effectively counter modern drug threats.

Following the meeting, they reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening their partnership, sharing experiences, and jointly countering modern threats and challenges.

Finally, Ivan Gorbunov was awarded an award by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic for his contribution to the development of Kyrgyz-Russian cooperation in law enforcement. In turn, the Russian side presented departmental awards to employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.
