Bishkek, Oct. 15, 2026. /Kabar/. Starting January 1, 2027, a ban on the production, sale, and free distribution of certain polymer-film bags and plastic products will come into effect in Kyrgyzstan. Ministry of natural resources, ecology, and technical supervision reports.

According to the ministry, a meeting was held with representatives of domestic enterprises involved in the production and recycling of plastic tableware and polymer bags. Participants discussed how businesses can prepare for new legislative requirements aimed at reducing the use of polymer materials.

These measures are intended to mitigate the negative impact of polymer materials on the environment and public health, as well as to reduce the volume of plastic waste.

During the meeting, participants explored ways for domestic enterprises to adapt to the new requirements, including transitioning to biodegradable alternatives, developing environmentally friendly packaging, and expanding the production capacity of plastic-recycling facilities.

Particular attention was given to strengthening the role of the "Eco-operator" in supporting plastic-waste recycling enterprises and fostering the development of the sector.

The discussion concluded by highlighting the need for collaboration between government agencies, manufacturers, and recyclers to ensure a consistent and phased transition to the new requirements. To further address emerging issues, the ministry plans to establish a working group in cooperation with major manufacturers and recyclers.
