Bishkek, May 6, 2026 /Kabar/. From May 12 to 18, 2026, a delegation from the Kyrgyz film industry will participate in the world's largest film market, the Marché du Film, held as part of the Cannes Film Festival. This was announced by the Ministry of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic.
A national stand, Kyrgyz Cinema, will be presented at the film market, showcasing the development potential of the national film industry and opportunities for international cooperation. The delegation will meet with representatives of the film industries from Asian and European countries, including producers, distributors, and festival program directors. The main focus is on developing co-productions and expanding the international distribution of Kyrgyz films.
"This year's participation is particularly significant due to the 85th anniversary of national cinema, as well as the increased focus on Asian cinema in the Marché du Film program. Furthermore, discussions are planned on the development of series production and the preservation of the legacy of the "Kyrgyz Keremeti (miracle)" era, including digitalization and restoration of classic films," the statement says.
At the film market, Kyrgyzfilm will present two full-length feature films: "Kara Kyzyl Sary" (directed by Aktan Arym Kubat) and "Buyruk" (directed by Dastan Madalbekov).
It is noted that a separate achievement was the inclusion of the UmutDoc international documentary film festival in the Cannes Docs program, opening up additional opportunities for expanding collaboration with leading representatives of the global industry.
The participation of the Kyrgyz delegation was organized by the Department of Cinematography and is aimed at promoting the national film industry on the international stage.
