Bishkek, Aug. 19, 2026 /Kabar/. From 14 to 16 August 2026, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), H.E. Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev, participated in the Great Hun-Turkic Kurultaj held in Bugac and a commemoration ceremony in Lakitelek during his visit to Hungary.
Organized by the Hungarian Turan Foundation, the three-day Kurultaj brought together representatives of more than 27 Turkic communities, including participants from the OTS Member and Observer States. Featuring traditional sports, music, handicrafts and cultural activities, the Kurultaj provided an important platform for celebrating the shared heritage of the Turkic World. Secretary General Omuraliev expressed his appreciation to Hungary and the Hungarian Turan Foundation for their contribution to preserving the common historical and cultural heritage.
Secretary General Omuraliev also highlighted Hungary’s important role, as an Observer State of the OTS in Europe, in fostering dialogue between the Turkic World and Europe.
As part of the visit, Secretary General Omuraliev, at the invitation of Mr. Sándor Lezsák, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Lakitelek Foundation, also attended a commemoration ceremony held at Ancestors’ Park. He laid wreaths at the monuments in the Pantheon of Peoples Related to the Hungarians dedicated to prominent figures of the Turkic World: Nizami Ganjavi, the renowned Azerbaijani poet and philosopher; Abai Kunanbaiuly, the distinguished Kazakh poet, philosopher and thinker; Sayakbay Karalaev, the legendary Kyrgyz manaschi and epic storyteller; Yunus Emre, the renowned Turkish poet and Sufi mystic; Alisher Navoi, the prominent Uzbek poet, thinker and statesman; and Magtymguly Pyragy, the distinguished Turkmen poet and philosopher.
The ceremony was also attended by TURKSOY Secretary General Mr. Sultan Raev and representatives of the diplomatic missions of the OTS Member States accredited to Hungary.
The visit once again underscored the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between Hungary and the Turkic World, as well as the importance the OTS attaches to preserving the shared heritage and strengthening people-to-people ties.
