Bishkek, Aug.18, 2026. /Kabar/. Today, August 18, Jogorku Kenesh's (Kyrgyz Parliament) members Zhyldyz Kurmanalieva and Erkeayim Seitkazieva initiated a roundtable discussion on "Violence against Women and Children: Current Status, Problems, and Solutions".
The event was also attended by MPs Nurzhamal Torobekova and Venera Salamova, heads of responsible government agencies, representatives of human rights organizations, and experts.
Speaking at the roundtable, Zhyldyz Kurmanalieva, Deputy Chair of the Committee on Judicial and Legal Issues, Law and Order, Crime Control, and Anti-Corruption, noted that, despite the existence of legislative measures, the problem of violence against women and children remains unresolved.
"Preventing violence, effectively protecting victims, and ensuring a timely response from government agencies are among the most important tasks today. Our primary goal is to analyze existing problems and develop specific proposals for improving legislation and operational mechanisms," said the deputy.
She also highlighted several serious cases of violence against women and children that have sparked public outcry and noted the need to strengthen efforts to improve a unified system of assistance focused on victims, ensuring child safety, and supporting the work of crisis centers.
"Today, we examined several serious cases as examples. But behind these cases lie the fates of specific individuals, the lives of women and children. Therefore, our goal is not to act only after yet another high-profile event, but to create a system that will be proactive," emphasized Zhyldyz Kurmanalieva.
In turn, Deputy Erkeyim Seitkazieva emphasized the importance of collaboration between government agencies, law enforcement and the judicial system, civil society, and international organizations.
