Bishkek, Aug. 29, 2025 /Kabar/. President Sadyr Zhaparov today, August 29, during a working trip to the Osh region, opened school No. 11 named after Valentina Tereshkova in Osh city and simultaneously another 100 social facilities throughout Kyrgyzstan in an online format.
The press service of the head of state said that the boarding school was opened in 1963. Initially, the educational institution was built on a land plot of 6 hectares and included a three-story educational building, as well as separate dormitories for students.
In May 2022, at the expense of the republican budget, the construction of an educational building for 700 students and a dormitory for 500 students began.
Hero of the Soviet Union, the first female cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova took part in the grand opening ceremony of the school after a complete reconstruction via video link.
She expressed gratitude for the preservation and development of the school that bears her name, noted satisfaction with the reconstruction, and also wished the students great success in their studies and the desire for new knowledge.
A delegation from Russia also took part in the event, including the Head of the Russian Presidential Administration for Interregional and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Igor Maslov, Russian Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Sergei Vakunov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Tourism and Development of Tourism Infrastructure Nikolai Valuev and other officials.
In his speech, President Zhaparov expressed gratitude to Valentina Vladimirovna for her attention and support, emphasizing that the school has proudly borne her name for more than half a century. He recalled that in 1979, Tereshkova personally visited the educational institution. Now, thanks to a large-scale reconstruction, the school has acquired a modern look, while preserving its historical significance.
Sadyr Zhaparov noted that the school played a key role in educating thousands of graduates, including deputies, ministers, prominent public, cultural and political figures. Among such outstanding graduates is the Hero of the Kyrgyz Republic Kamchybek Tashiev, with whom in 2022 a joint decision was made to completely reconstruct the school, since the building was deemed unsuitable for the educational process.
The modern boarding school now occupies an area of 2.3 hectares, where all the conditions for high-quality education and comfortable living of students have been created.
“I am confident that it is such institutions that are called upon to reveal the talents of children living in various conditions, support their desire for knowledge, help choose a future profession and build a bright future,” the head of state said.
He also focused on the fact that students not only receive knowledge, but also know how to apply it in life and decide on the choice of profession as early as possible. Speaking about the introduction of a 12-year education system, Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized that the content of education, teaching methods are changing, subject standards have been updated. This year, the national program "Altyn Kazyk" will also be launched.
To master new methods, 16 thousand teachers were trained in STEM subjects. More than 37 thousand teachers improved their qualifications in other subjects. More than 27 thousand laptops were given to teachers for the new school year.
The President noted that the state allocated 744 million soms for the publication of new textbooks for the 12-year program. School libraries will be completely updated over three academic years.
Addressing the teachers, Sadyr Zhaparov noted that they must be one step ahead. It is necessary to constantly learn, update knowledge, develop in order to give children the education and upbringing that the times require.
The state, in turn, creates all the necessary conditions, including building modern schools and introducing new methods.
“Thanks to the work of purposeful and patriotic teachers, the abilities of our children are revealed. By combining the spiritual values of our ancestors with modern knowledge, you are raising real citizens. They will bring Kyrgyzstan into the ranks of developed countries. And your work will certainly be duly appreciated by the state. This year we will also raise teachers' salaries," the president emphasized.
