Bishkek, 07/24/26. /Kabar/. Today, July 24, President Sadyr Zhaparov met with the foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states in Cholpon-Ata, Issyk-Kul region. Kyrgyz presidential administration reports.
In his welcoming address, the head of state noted that Kyrgyzstan's chairmanship is taking place during the 25th anniversary of the SCO, emphasizing the importance of the Organization as a platform for equal dialogue and the joint search for solutions.
"Terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, and transnational organized crime are also quickly adapting to new conditions. All this points to one thing: security today has political, economic, technological, environmental, and humanitarian dimensions.
No state can cope with such a complex set of challenges alone. Therefore, the SCO must continue to strengthen as a space of shared responsibility and coordinated action," the president emphasized. Sadyr Zhaparov also called for the expedited creation of a Universal Center for Countering Security Challenges and Threats within the Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure, including the Center for Combating Transnational Organized Crime in Bishkek, calling it an important contribution by Kyrgyzstan to ensuring peace and security in the region.
The president paid special attention to the role of international law and the United Nations, noting that Kyrgyzstan's election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027–2028 represents a great responsibility.
At the same time, the head of state expressed confidence that the SCO Foreign Ministers will have the opportunity to substantively discuss key issues of political interaction, security, and practical economic cooperation, as well as create the necessary foundation for a successful meeting of the Council of Heads of State in Bishkek.
"It is important that, following the Bishkek Summit, we have clear guidelines for the development of our Organization in the coming years. Over the past 25 years, our Organization has accumulated significant experience," Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized. The president also emphasized the need to expand trade and economic cooperation, develop transport routes, implement joint investment projects, and strengthen interaction between SCO member states.
In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted the importance of Kyrgyzstan's SCO Presidency, the Organization's priorities, and joint actions.
The meeting was attended by Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev, Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov, Indian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Mukhriddin, Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev, and Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure Ularbek Sharsheyev.
