Bishkek, Dec. 26, 2025. /Kabar/. I hoped that 70 percent of the population would participate in the elections of the Jogorku Kenesh, but less than 37 percent of voters participated, President Sadyr Zhaparov told during his speech at the IV People's kurultai.
According to him, despite the opportunity to participate in the elections by spending only 5 minutes on remote voting, people did not turn up for the elections.
“Only 200 thousand voters more participated than in previous elections. We are very passive people, and however, it is easy to criticize the deputies. Those who sell their votes actively participate in the elections, while those who do not sell their votes become passive and do not go to the polls. Therefore, I told the deputies about the need to adopt a law on mandatory participation in the elections,” the president said.
He also noted that he planned to create the opportunity to vote online using the practice of Estonia for the next elections, but it was too early to do this.
“We planned to introduce the possibility of voting via the Internet, following the practice of Estonia. However, it is too early for us to introduce it. In this case, I imagine that campaigners of candidates who bought votes would visit a village by noon and vote. Therefore, it is too early for us to use such a method,” said Zhaparov.
