Bishkek, May 3, 2026. /Kabar/. Deputy Cabinet head Ulan Mamatkanov, during a working visit to Issyk-Kul region, participated in the opening ceremony of the Run The Silk Road international marathon and visited several social facilities in the region.

Speaking at the marathon's opening ceremony, Ulan Mamatkanov noted that this year the Kyrgyz Republic chairs the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which unites a significant portion of the population, economy, and resources of Eurasia and is celebrating its 25th anniversary. He emphasized that the region is the heir to the historic Great Silk Road, which lends the event a special symbolism.

"Kyrgyzstan is a country where you can engage in sports year-round. What makes this marathon unique is that it is held at an altitude of 1,633 meters above sea level. The course runs along the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul, where participants can experience truly unique nature. The Issyk-Kul Marathon confidently takes its place among international competitions. "Today, in the age of technology, people are becoming less active. Therefore, it is important to engage as many people as possible in mass sports," said Ulan Mamatkanov.
