Bishkek, Sept 24, 2025. /Kabar/. Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov called for the return of Afghanistan's frozen assets at the General Debate of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, noting that it is wrong to isolate Afghanistan internationally and leave it without financial assistance.
The President noted that the use of financial instruments for geopolitical purposes exacerbates the humanitarian crisis.
He specifically noted that more than $9 billion in funds frozen by Western countries should be returned to the Afghan people.
These funds would help restore infrastructure, support the local banking system, develop agriculture, and create new opportunities for millions of people.
“You are using these resources and benefiting from them,” he noted.
The President recalled that today 15 million people in Afghanistan are facing hunger, while 24 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance.
