Bishkek, Aug. 22, 2025 /Kabar/. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov and President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in a meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of the two countries.
The presidential press service reported that, welcoming the distinguished guest, Sadyr Zhaparov noted that the Kyrgyz and Kazakh peoples have long lived in harmony and friendship, supporting each other.
The president, noting the success of the sixth meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council held last year in Astana, where all areas of bilateral cooperation were considered in detail together with the President of Kazakhstan, expressed confidence that the current, seventh meeting will give a new impetus to fraternal relations, strategic partnership and alliance.
"This systematic work allows us not only to effectively solve current problems, but also to open up new prospects for the development of cooperation," said Sadyr Zhaparov.
The president drew attention to the importance of developing bilateral trade and economic cooperation, where positive dynamics are observed in mutual trade turnover.
Noting the importance of bringing the volume of mutual trade to three billion dollars by 2030, he outlined priority areas, including the creation of favorable conditions for access of goods to the markets of the two countries, the implementation of joint investment projects in industry, agriculture and energy, as well as the modernization of border infrastructure.
He also noted the ongoing work on the reconstruction of a number of checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh state border and on the promising project for the construction of the Almaty-Issyk-Kul highway with the support of the Asian Development Bank.
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that the Kazakhs and Kyrgyz are fraternal peoples connected by a common history and destiny.
“Our friendship, which has stood the test of time, is a spiritual heritage bequeathed by our ancestors, passed down from generation to generation. Today, relations between our countries have grown into an unbreakable partnership based on mutual trust and respect. Kyrgyzstan is one of Kazakhstan's main strategic partners in the region,” the president said.
Noting the importance of further developing trade and economic cooperation, he noted that the volume of bilateral trade between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan has reached about $2 billion, and there is every opportunity to further increase this figure.
