Bishkek, Aug. 14, 2026. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan should focus on attracting investment and adopting technologies in its cooperation with China, President Sadyr Zhaparov said in an interview with journalist Ali Toktakunov.
The head of state commented on public criticism of cooperation with China and emphasized that it should not hinder the implementation of infrastructure projects such as the construction of railways, bridges, and highways.
Sadyr Zhaparov cited the waste processing plant in Bishkek as an example of successful cooperation. He noted that 550 Chinese citizens were involved in the construction work during the construction phase, but now only five Chinese specialists remain to operate the plant, training local employees.
The President noted that the plant not only helps solve the waste problem but also generates 30 MW of electricity.
"Kyrgyzstan should leverage China's experience in technology and investment. Since Kyrgyzstan borders China, there are numerous opportunities for cooperation between the two countries. After all, we are 100 years behind China. Now we need to catch up in at least the next 20 years," the President said.
Sadyr Zhaparov also added that Kyrgyzstan should not lag behind its neighbors economically and technologically.
