Sadyr Zhaparov, Eduards Stiprais discuss construction of Kambarata-1 HPP

Bishkek, June 5,2026. /Kabar/. President Sadyr Zhaparov received Eduards Stiprais, the EU Special Representative for Central Asia.

According to presidential administration, the head of state emphasized that interaction with the EU and strengthening regional cooperation within Central Asia – European Union format are among the priority areas of Kyrgyzstan's foreign policy.

Sadyr Zhaparov also noted the importance of continuing close cooperation with the European Union in implementing major infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Kambarata-1 HPP and projects under the Global Gateway initiative.

In turn, Eduards Stiprais congratulated the head of state on Kyrgyzstan's election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027–2028, noting that this success is evidence of the international community's high regard for the country's foreign policy and the result of the extensive joint work of the diplomatic service and government agencies of Kyrgyzstan.

He emphasized that relations between Kyrgyzstan and European Union have significantly developed over the past year.

Eduards Stiprais placed particular emphasis on Kambarata-1 HPP construction project, calling it one of the flagship projects of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and EU. He noted that the project's implementation will contribute to strengthening the region's energy security, developing regional cooperation, and expanding opportunities for energy interaction with South Asian countries.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their commitment to further deepening the Kyrgyz-European partnership and continuing constructive dialogue on issues of mutual interest.
