Bishkek, Sept. 23, 2026 /Kabar/. On September 22, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Kamla Persad-Bissessar on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the Presidential Administration reported.
During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for developing bilateral relations as well as cooperation within international organizations.
Sadyr Zhaparov noted Kyrgyzstan's interest in expanding cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean countries and emphasized the importance of establishing closer ties with Trinidad and Tobago. The head of state congratulated Kamla Persad-Bissessar on the election of Trinidad and Tobago as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2027–2028 term and expressed readiness for close cooperation within the Council, noting the importance of jointly advancing the interests of small and developing states, as well as countries most vulnerable to climate change.
For her part, Kamla Persad-Bissessar emphasized her interest in developing cooperation in trade, the economy, energy, and cultural-humanitarian ties, including the exchange of experience in renewable energy sources.
The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago also expressed readiness to further develop bilateral dialogue and cooperation in areas of mutual interest and to assist Kyrgyzstan in expanding access to maritime transport routes.
In conclusion, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening constructive cooperation and developing relations between the two countries.
