Last year, Uzbekistan’s fruit and vegetable products strengthened their positions on the international market, UzA reported.

Uzbekistan holds a leading position in the export of pomegranates and cherries to South Korea. During this period, 31.3 thousand tons of grapes, 22.2 thousand tons of lemons, 18 thousand tons of cherries, 5.5 thousand tons of melons, and 1.8 thousand tons of pomegranates were exported to South Korea.

“Last year, exports to South Korea increased 10-fold”, says Guzal Gulomova, an employee of the Agency for Plant Quarantine and Protection. “New negotiations are underway with importers. Agreements are being reached with the Korean phytosanitary service”.

Export volumes may increase. First, it is necessary to expand the area of intensive gardens, increase the number of export varieties, and continue developing storage and processing infrastructure. Ensuring phytosanitary safety is another essential requirement. Rising exports of Uzbek agricultural products to the demanding South Korean market have led to the introduction of broader requirements for the production, packaging, and labeling of fruits and vegetables. Uzbekistan’s achievement of stable positions in a competitive environment in a short period is attributed to systemic agricultural reforms.
