Bishkek, Sept.15, 2026. /Kabar/. About 1.5 million schoolchildren in Kyrgyzstan have started the new academic year, of which about 147,000 children are attending school for the first time, according to the Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic.
About 97,000 teachers work in general education institutions across the country. Currently, there are 2,374 schools in the country, of which 2,132 are public and 242 are private.
As part of the second stage of the gradual transition to 12-year education, students in grades 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, and 8 have transitioned to the new education system. Students in grades 4, 9, 10, and 11 will continue their education according to the 11-year system.
In addition, there are 94 vocational lyceums operating in Kyrgyzstan. For the new academic year, 17,307 students have been enrolled in them through the online system.
On September 11, 100 social facilities, including 34 schools and 28 kindergartens, were opened online across the country in the Talas region with the participation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov.
By the end of the year, 58 more educational facilities are planned to be commissioned. Of these, 56 are new construction projects, including 49 schools and 7 kindergartens. Two schools are also planned to be commissioned after major renovations.
