This year marks exactly 35 years since Kyrgyzstan gained independence. Since achieving sovereignty, the country has strived to develop as an independent state. Considering the last five years alone, Kyrgyzstan makes significant progress in virtually every area, from public administration to the economy. Kabar News Agency presents an overview of these achievements.

Changes in public administration system

The development of Kyrgyzstan depends on the work carried out at the regional and local levels. For many years, residents have raised issues regarding the construction of schools, kindergartens, roads, and solutions to land and water supply problems. In the last five years, the state has actively invested in these areas, annually constructing dozens of social facilities and laying hundreds of kilometers of roads. Now local authorities, including akims and heads of ayil okmotu, strive to address these issues independently, without waiting for directives from the center. This was stated by public and state figure Abdrakhman Mamataliyev. State and public figure Abdrakhman Mamataliev shares his view with Kabar.

According to him, akims are now appointed based on the results of a competitive selection process, which allows for their professional qualities and experience to be taken into account. This innovation has helped avoid the practice of appointments based on connections. Additionally, staff rotation has significantly reduced the level of corruption. "These changes introduced into the public administration system have significantly improved the quality of work." Today, akims and heads of aiyl okmotu have become more responsible in addressing local issues. The president has instructed these leaders to hold regular direct meetings with local residents on a special schedule. This has allowed them to listen to the population's concerns and address them directly at the local level," he noted.

Abdrakhman Mamataliev also expressed his opinion on addressing social issues. According to him, Kyrgyz government doubles social benefits and wages.

"In recent years, hundreds of schools, kindergartens, first aid stations, and hospitals have been built. Such construction is taking place in all regions of the country. Accordingly, the quality of public services has improved. Teachers' and doctors' salaries have been increased. "Specialists who previously left their professions, temporarily took other jobs, or were forced to leave for work are now returning and continuing to work in their fields," Mamataliev cited as an example.

Defense and security Issues

Abdrakhman Mamataliev believes that Kyrgyzstan has set an example for other countries by work on clarifying its borders with neighboring countries and resolving these issues through diplomacy and negotiations.

"Friendly and fraternal relations with neighboring states are strengthening, and political, economic, cultural, and humanitarian ties are expanding. The country has not neglected defense and security issues, having managed to carry out comprehensive work in this area. The government increased salaries for military personnel, improved conditions of service, and constructs new buildings. At the same time, the issue of housing is being addressed," the statesman said.

International affairs and diplomacy

The multi-vector foreign policy of Kyrgyzstan strengthens important, friendly, and mutually beneficial ties with all foreign countries and continues to expand cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. At international forums, Kyrgyzstan puts forward its own proposals for addressing global issues and, as a mountainous country, emphasizes the implementation of these objectives in the context of climate change.

"Kyrgyzstan has been elected a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2027–2028. The majority of UN member states supported Kyrgyzstan, which testifies the growing international standing of our country," said Abdrakhman Mamataliev.

Economy and investments

In recent years, Kyrgyzstan observes positive dynamics in all sectors of the economy. According to preliminary estimates, Kyrgyzstan's gross domestic product (GDP) for the first five months of this year amounted to 781 billion soms, demonstrating real growth of 12.2%.

Economic growth is driven by the construction, manufacturing, services, and agriculture sectors.

Kyrgyz government goals opening more than 100 enterprises annually in the region, creating new jobs, providing the domestic market with in-demand products and expanding export opportunities.

Economist Iskender Sharsheev told Kabar that Kyrgyzstan has achieved the highest economic growth rates among the Eurasian Economic Union member states.

According to the economist, the Kyrgyz economy continues to demonstrate high attractiveness for foreign business. Consequently, the influx of foreign direct investment has increased significantly, indicating growing confidence in the country.

At the same time, Kyrgyzstan pays considerable attention to the implementation of major projects.

"In the energy sector, work is underway on projects to build large hydroelectric power plants. Construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is ongoing. This is one of the most strategically important projects for our country. Since independence, the implementation of this project has been a constant priority. Once operational, the railway will make an additional contribution to the development of our country," he said. According to the State Agency for Tourism Development, 6.3 million tourists visited Kyrgyzstan in the first six months of 2026. This is one million more than the same period last year. By the end of the year, the number of tourists is expected to reach 13 million.

Iskender Sharsheev noted that these figures indicate a gradual recovery in the tourism industry, which weakened after the coronavirus pandemic.

"Today, Central Asia is recognized as one of the most stable and rapidly developing regions in the world. Due to this, the likelihood of global capital inflows into Central Asia has significantly increased. Therefore, the volume of investment coming into Kyrgyzstan has increased significantly compared to previous years. Positive steps such as the opening of the Tamchy special financial and investment zone will help attract investment," the economist emphasized. Furthermore, last month, Kyrgyzstan was removed from the European Union's aviation safety blacklist. The country had been on the list for 20 years. The work carried out over the past three years has yielded results, paving the way for the launch of direct flights to Europe. Economists believe that removal from the blacklist will not only facilitate direct flights but also expand trade, economic, and tourism ties.
