Bishkek, Feb. 11, 2026 /Kabar/. Several citizens suspected of organizing mass riots have been detained in Kyrgyzstan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
According to the ministry, on February 9, information circulated online and in the media that 75 citizens had appealed to President Sadyr Zhaparov and Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu to immediately initiate new presidential elections. The appeal was reportedly signed by scientists, former prime ministers, former members of parliament, and public figures.
The ministry stated that certain statements contained in the appeal triggered active public debate and contributed to a deterioration of the socio-political situation in the country.
The Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 278 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic (“Mass Riots”).
On February 11, all 75 individuals named in the appeal were brought in for questioning. Investigative procedures were carried out.
Three individuals identified as alleged organizers and active participants were detained and placed in a pre-trial detention facility under Article 96 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Searches were conducted at their residences.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs urged citizens not to trust or disseminate provocative information.
