Bishkek, May 26, 2026 /Kabar/. Erlist Akunbekov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, met with Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan Sulaimon Ziyozoda as part of his working visit to Tajikistan.
During the meeting, the parties paid special attention to the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of the two countries, held in February of this year, noting that this marked an important stage in the institutionalization of a new format for trade and economic cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. In this regard, it was emphasized that systematic work by the relevant bodies of both countries is required to implement the agreements reached and establish a mechanism for regular reporting on their progress.
During the talks, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, as close neighbors, have remained important trading partners for many years. In order to increase bilateral trade and implement the decisions of the Intergovernmental Council, the parties discussed the previously initiated issue of developing a joint roadmap, identifying specific implementers and deadlines.
In particular, the heads of state of the two countries set a goal of increasing mutual trade turnover to $500 million by 2030. Kyrgyzstan has the potential to increase exports of textiles, coal, glass, plastic products, and certain agricultural products. In this context, the possibility of opening mutual trade houses between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan was discussed.
Furthermore, the parties discussed cooperation and exchange of experience on promising projects in the development of renewable energy sources, as well as effective collaboration in the water and energy sectors.
Following the meeting, specific steps were identified to implement previously reached bilateral agreements.
