Ambassador Ashirbekov meets Sheikh of Al-Azhar in Cairo

Bishkek, Oct. 8, 2026 /Kabar/. On October 6, Talgat Ashirbekov, the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Egypt, met with the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, in Cairo.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the parties discussed further strengthening cooperation in the spiritual, scientific, and educational spheres.

Particular attention was paid to the exchange of experience and the implementation of joint educational initiatives.

Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their readiness to continue working on strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Al-Azhar Al-Sharif is one of the world's oldest centers of Islamic education and scholarship, founded in Cairo between 970 and 972 AD. Today, the Al-Azhar system educates individuals from over 100 countries, including students from Kyrgyzstan.

In addition to Islamic studies, the institution trains specialists in other fields.
