Bishkek, Sept. 25, 2026 /Kabar/. Kyrgyzneftegaz OJSC and the Chinese company Sinopec have agreed to expand cooperation on geological exploration in the Alay Valley of Kyrgyzstan.
According to Kyrgyzneftegaz, a Kyrgyz delegation attended an international conference on oil and gas engineering technologies in Beijing, where they familiarized themselves with modern drilling technologies, geophysical survey methods, and other advanced techniques used in the oil and gas industry.
Additionally, the leadership of Kyrgyzneftegaz OJSC and Sinopec held a meeting to discuss prospects for future cooperation. In Nanjing, the Kyrgyz delegation participated in a Sinopec seminar on geophysical technologies.
Sinopec specialists analyzed existing geological and geophysical data regarding the Alay Basin and presented proposals for utilizing modern technologies to assess its oil and gas potential. The Chinese company expressed interest in collaborating with Kyrgyzneftegaz OJSC on exploration activities in the Alay Valley.
Preliminary estimates suggest that the oil resource potential of the Alay Basin could range from 2 to 4 billion tons. However, this figure is tentative, and further comprehensive geological and geophysical studies are required to refine the resource volume estimates.
There are 19 intermontane basins in Kyrgyzstan, and the Alay Basin is considered one of the most promising areas for oil and gas exploration.
Following the working visit to China, the parties signed a memorandum of understanding.
