A monitoring system is in place at the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction sites in Kyrgyzstan, allowing for real-time monitoring of the progress of work and the situation inside the tunnels. Yu Yang, responsible for the Urumbash Tunnel No. 1 project told Kabar.
According to him, each employee undergoes registration before starting work in the tunnel. This allows for an accurate count of the number of people inside the tunnel and allows for their location to be tracked.
He noted that GPS devices are installed on the workers' helmets for this purpose. These devices allow specialists to see the location of employees inside the tunnel in real time and monitor their movements.
"Specialized safety engineers, one from the Chinese side and one from the Kyrgyz side are monitoring the safety of the workers. They work in shifts and monitor the situation inside the tunnel, the number of employees, and their locations via computer," he said.
He added that workers also receive regular safety briefings and training.
He also noted that telephones are installed inside the tunnel for emergency communication. If necessary, employees can relay information about an emergency. In the event of an emergency, a special button is also installed that sends a signal into the tunnel and alerts workers.
