Bishkek, Nov. 5, 2026 /Kabar/. In the first nine months of 2026, "Skazka" (Fairy Tale) Canyon, located in Ton district of Issyk-Kul region contributed 7.5 million soms to the local budget. For comparison, total revenue from this tourist site for the entirety of last year amounted to 5.5 million soms. Baktybek Osmonov, the head (akim) of Ton district state administration told Birinchi Radio.

According to him, the canyon area had previously been leased to a private entrepreneur. However, last year given that the land is classified as pasture, the lease agreement was terminated by mutual consent, and the territory was returned to the jurisdiction of the local municipal authority (*ayyl okmotu*).

To develop the canyon and improve facilities for tourists, the first phase of an improvement project with a budget of 36 million soms has been launched, funded by the local government. As the akim noted, "Skazka" is a popular destination among foreign tourists.

Furthermore, infrastructure around Tuzduu lake is also being upgraded. The project worth 17 million soms is currently underway with the support of sponsors. This includes the installation of a 4.5-kilometer power line, the drilling of a well to provide a clean water supply, and the construction of sanitary facilities.

Baktybek Osmonov stated that these improvements to tourist sites are intended not only to provide a more comfortable experience for visitors but also to increase revenue for the local budget.
