Bishkek, April 7, 2026 /Kabar/. Over the past five years, mining companies have contributed over 217.9 billion soms in taxes and mandatory payments to the national budget, noted Akyl Toktobayev, Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, at ceremony celebrating Geologist's Day.
According to him, 78.2 billion soms of this amount came from the Kumtor mine, which remains one of the country's largest taxpayers.
It is noted that Kyrgyzstan is rich in minerals, including critical minerals, lead, aluminum, and coal. However, gold remains the key resource: 26 tons were mined last year, and production volumes are expected to increase in the coming years. Steady increase in budget revenues is also noted, thanks to licensing fees, bonuses, and social payments from mining companies.
"The mining industry's contribution to the gross domestic product amounts to 12.6%, and its share of industrial output exceeds 46%. The export of mineral raw materials and mining products accounts for a significant portion of foreign exchange earnings. This is a clear indicator of the long-term work of geologists, engineers, researchers, and all industry specialists," the minister said.
