Bishkek, Oct. 26, 2026 /Kabar/. On October 23, Asein Isaev, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, met with Carl Skau, Acting Executive Director of the UN World Food Programme (WFP).

Skau expressed his appreciation to the Kyrgyz side for its assistance in the successful implementation of joint projects focused on social support for the population and ensuring food security. Particular attention was paid to disaster risk reduction as a key area for enhancing the resilience of populations living in mountainous regions against natural and climate-related challenges. The parties also discussed prospects for expanding the World Food Programme’s (WFP) project activities in Kyrgyz Republic, including within the framework of the Food Security and Nutrition Programme for 2025–2030. Emphasis was placed on the continued implementation of development projects, the expansion of school feeding programmes, the provision of targeted support to vulnerable population groups, and the strengthening of climate resilience across the country’s regions.

For his part, Isaev noted that this visit marks the first time WFP leadership has visited Kyrgyzstan. He reaffirmed the Kyrgyz side’s commitment to further strengthening its partnership with the WFP and invited Carl Skau to participate in the Second Global Mountain Summit, "Bishkek+25," which is scheduled to take place in Bishkek in October 2027.

Following the meeting, both sides confirmed their mutual interest in further developing their cooperation and agreed to continue working together on key aspects of the partnership between the Kyrgyz Republic and the WFP, including in the context of Kyrgyzstan’s upcoming membership on the UN Security Council for the 2027–2028 term.
