Bishkek, June 6, 2026 /Kabar/. The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision (MNRETS) of the Kyrgyz Republic held a ceremonial event dedicated to World Environment Day and the professional Environmental Protection Day of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The event was organized with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) as part of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) global campaign #NowForClimate. It brought together representatives of government bodies, international organizations, the scientific community, businesses, environmental organizations, and development partners.
Welcoming remarks were delivered by the First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, Zhenish Seidaliev; Chief Expert of the Administration of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Zalkar Orozobekov; and representatives of the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the Kyrgyz Republic, the United Nations, and other international organizations.
During the event, a video showcasing the activities of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision was presented. The video highlighted the Ministry's main areas of work in environmental protection, climate action, and biodiversity conservation, as well as the results of its cooperation with international organizations and development partners in implementing the country's environmental and climate policies.
The event underscored the importance of further strengthening state environmental policy and fulfilling the Kyrgyz Republic's international commitments regarding climate change, biodiversity conservation, and the sustainable management of natural resources.
"As a mountainous country, Kyrgyzstan feels the impacts of climate change particularly acutely. In this regard, environmental protection, adaptation to climate change, achieving carbon neutrality, rational nature management, and the development of a 'green' economy hold a priority place in state policy. The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision is consistently implementing a state environmental policy aimed at preserving the country's natural wealth and strengthening climate and environmental resilience.
I express my sincere gratitude to our international partners for their fruitful cooperation, trust, and support of the Kyrgyz Republic's efforts in the field of environment and climate," noted Zhenish Seidaliev, First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Special attention was given to fostering partnerships between the state, international organizations, the scientific community, and the private sector in the interest of the country's sustainable development.
The event featured a signing ceremony for three Memorandums of Cooperation aimed at strengthening environmental protection activities and developing digital solutions in the environmental sector:
- Between MNRETS and the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic on updating the Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic;
- Between MNRETS and the State Enterprise "Kyrgyzstroyservis" on the construction of a checkpoint;
- Between MNRETS and "Tunduk" JSC on the development of the "Mergenchi" (Hunter) Automated Information System (AIS).
"For UNDP, the partnership with the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of climate and environment is one of the key areas of our work. In recent years, significant progress has been made jointly with the Ministry and national partners to strengthen the country's climate policy. Kyrgyzstan is consistently advancing its Nationally Determined Contributions, developing approaches to the National Adaptation Plan, enhancing climate reporting and transparency, working on a long-term vision for carbon neutrality, and strengthening national climate governance systems.
Of particular significance is the work on biodiversity and the sustainable management of natural resources. Through Global Environment Facility projects and other collaborative initiatives, support is provided for updating the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, preparing national reporting, working in the unique ecosystems of the Pamir-Alay and Western Tien Shan, and supporting local communities”, highlighted Alexandra Solovieva, UNDP Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic.
"On World Environment Day, WFP reaffirms its commitment to combating climate change and enhancing environmental resilience in the Kyrgyz Republic, in line with the country's Nationally Determined Contribution and the President-led global mountain development agenda. In 2025, WFP supported 360,000 vulnerable people and, together with partners, implemented 300 projects aimed at building climate resilience. Through innovative solutions, such as climate risk insurance and disaster risk assessment tools, WFP is strengthening national capacities to better anticipate and manage climate risks," said Kojiro Nakai, WFP Representative and Country Director in the Kyrgyz Republic.
As part of the solemn event, an awards ceremony was held to honor environmental industry employees, ecologists, specialists, and partners who have made significant contributions to environmental protection and the sustainable development of the Kyrgyz Republic.
A thematic exhibition was also organized for the participants, showcasing achievements and initiatives in environmental protection, climate action, and sustainable natural resource management.
The celebration of World Environment Day served as a vital platform for recognizing the contributions of environmental professionals, strengthening partnerships, and promoting joint actions to preserve the unique natural heritage of the Kyrgyz Republic.
