Bishkek, Aug. 21, 2026 /Kabar/. The Regional Youth Summer Camp of Central Asia "Climate-Youth-Mountains" is underway in the Chon-Kyzyl-Suu Gorge of Issyk-Kul Region. Youth from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan attended the event.
According to the presidential administration, the event is organized by the Tien Shan International Scientific Center with the support of the OSCE and FAO and aims to improve the knowledge and practical skills of young people on climate change and the sustainability of mountain regions.
The official opening of the camp was attended by Dinara Kemelova, Special Representative of Kyrgyz president for the Mountain Agenda; Rysbek Satylkanov, Director of the Institute of Water Problems and Hydropower of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan; and representatives of the OSCE and FAO.
In her speech, Dinara Kemelova discussed the implementation of the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions at the regional level, as well as Kyrgyzstan's achievements, with the support of partners, in advancing the mountain agenda within the framework of global climate processes.
The camp program combines theory with field practice: participants conduct meteorological and hydrological observations at the Chon-Kyzyl-Suu high-mountain station, study the role of glaciers in the region's water supply, undertake an expedition to a glacier to collect climate data, and participate in a session on the adaptation of agriculture to climate change with FAO representatives.
Following the summer camp, participants plan to prepare joint recommendations for international climate and mountain initiatives, including COP31 and the Second Global Mountain Summit "Bishkek+25."
