Kyrgyzstan, Japan to strengthen cooperation in restoration and conservation of monuments

Bishkek, Aug. 17, 2026. /Kabar/. National History Museum Director Nazgul Omurzakova met the leadership and representatives of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage of Teikyo University, Japan in Bishkek.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy, the meeting was attended by the institute's director, Professor Kazuya Yamauchi; deputy director and professor of conservation Akira Fujisawa; associate professor of history Shigeo Saito; and other institute staff members who arrived in Kyrgyzstan to conduct archaeological research at the Ak-Beshim site.

The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in the research, preservation, and restoration of cultural heritage.

Special attention was given to the possibility of holding a practical master class for young specialists from Kyrgyz museums on modern restoration and conservation methods. A proposal was also made to organize internships for Kyrgyz specialists at restoration centers in Japan to enhance their professional and practical skills.

Representatives of the Teikyo University Cultural Heritage Research Institute supported these initiatives. In turn, the Japanese side proposed organizing an exhibition of the institute's archaeological exhibits at the National History Museum of Kyrgyzstan.

The institute's history dates back to the Yamanashi Cultural Heritage Research Institute, founded in 1986. In 2012, the Teikyo University Cultural Heritage Research Institute was established on its foundations, focusing on scientific research, education, and specialist training.
