Bishkek, June 4, 2026 /Kabar/. According to the latest data, Kyrgyzstan lacks 640 teachers. In addition, in September, the Ministry of Education will receive updated information on staffing needs in schools. Minister Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva as part of Open Cabinet: Area of Responsibility project.

According to her, the greatest shortage is observed among teachers of subjects taught in Russian, since young specialists rarely choose Russian-language departments of pedagogical universities. In this regard, the ministry sometimes turns to its Russian colleagues with a request for support.

"Currently, 140 teachers from abroad work in schools, but this is not enough. Therefore, using international experience, a special law was adopted so that students can work in schools and earn money while studying. Last year, similar problem arose in Bishkek, and 400 students from the 3rd year helped to fill the shortage of teachers in city schools," the minister said.

According to her, there is a shortage of about 300 teachers in Bishkek alone. This year, tripartite agreements signed with pedagogical universities, as well as social support measures and increase in salaries are expected to help solve this problem.

"According to the directors and heads of educational departments (deans) of schools in the center, many teachers who previously left to work in private schools now want to return," Kendirbaeva said.
