Bishkek, April 24, 2026. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan held a high-level country session on "Mountains and Climate Change: From Vulnerability to Sustainable Development" in Astana as part of the Regional Environmental Summit.

According to the presidential administration, the event became an important platform for developing coordinated solutions to address climate challenges in the mountainous regions of Central Asia.

The session was organized under the Special Presidential Representative for the Mountain Agenda, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Technical Supervision, and the Climate Finance Center under the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan.

The event was attended by the ministers of natural resources and environment of all five Central Asian countries, as well as representatives of international organizations and financial institutions.

During the session, Special Presidential Representative for the Mountain Agenda Dinara Kemelova presented the Five Years of Action for Mountain Regions Development, the Kyrgyz Republic's mountain development initiatives within the UN, and the upcoming Second Global Mountain Summit "Bishkek+25."

Participants discussed key threats posed by climate change, including accelerated glacier melting, ecosystem degradation, declining water resources, and the increasing frequency of natural disasters, which have a significant impact on the sustainable development of mountain regions.

During the session, CCF Director Aibek Asanov presented the concept of the Global Mountain Resilience Center – an international platform aimed at consolidating knowledge, coordinating climate action, and attracting investment for mountain developing countries. The center is expected to facilitate the development of scientific and expert capacity, expand access to climate finance, and implement practical local solutions for climate change adaptation, mitigation, and reduction of loss and damage.

The session confirmed the growing importance of regional and international cooperation in the sustainable development of mountain areas and emphasized Kyrgyzstan's active role in advancing the global mountain agenda.
