Bishkek, July 20, 2026 /Kabar/. Due to abnormally high temperatures, Kyrgyzstan has recorded an unprecedented increase in electricity consumption.
According to NEGK data, daily consumption reached a new all-time high of 50,122,000 kWh on July 19, 2026. For comparison, on July 19, 2025, this figure was 42,514,000 kWh. Thus, daily electricity consumption increased by 7,608,000 kWh, or 18%, indicating a record load on the country's power grid, caused by the abnormal heat and the widespread use of AC equipment.
It is noted that due to the extreme load, the region's power grid equipment is operating at its capacity limits. At temperatures of +45°C, the transmission capacity of power lines is reduced to 25%, resulting in exceedances of permissible technical standards in certain sections.
"To ensure the safety of equipment and prevent large-scale emergency outages, power companies are forced to introduce temporary preventative maintenance measures in certain areas of Bishkek and Chui region where the greatest overloads are observed," the company emphasized.
It is clarified that these measures are necessary and short-term. The main goal is to prevent a systemic failure and prevent the failure of key equipment.
"The temporary power outage for consumers in regulated zones will last no more than two hours," the statement says.
It is known that specialists are currently taking all possible technical measures to minimize inconvenience and stabilize the situation as quickly as possible.
Power companies urge residents to be understanding of the current circumstances and ask them to minimize their electricity consumption during peak daytime hours.
