Bishkek, June 9, 2026. /Kabar/. Construction of Papan HPP in Kyrgyzstan continues. According to Ministry of Energy, the first 30 meters of the diversion water supply tunnel, one of the project's key facilities, have been excavated. The total length of the tunnel will be 1.5 kilometers.
All necessary permits for construction and drilling and blasting operations have been obtained for the project. More than 30 units of specialized machinery and equipment have been mobilized to the site, and the necessary materials and components have been delivered. Approximately 8-kilometer access road has also been repaired and reinforced, facilitating the delivery of large equipment and construction materials.
Concurrently, work continues on the plant's main facilities. Construction of the administrative building has been completed, sites near the water intake unit and gate chamber have been prepared, and excavation of the pit for the power plant building has begun.
Furthermore, the manufacture of three 10 MW hydroelectric units is ongoing, with completion currently at approximately 70%.
Work is currently underway to finalize the land registration and land acquisition procedures for the power transmission line construction. Subject to the work schedule, quality, and safety requirements for construction, the Papan HPP is scheduled to begin operation in late 2027.
