Bishkek, July 13, 2026. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan plans to launch a visiting ambassadors system in 2027, Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev informs as part of Open Cabinet media project.
According to him, the new model will significantly reduce budget expenditures on maintaining full-fledged diplomatic missions abroad and will improve the efficiency of work on international projects.
"This innovation is based on the successful experience of European countries. "A visiting ambassador will be permanently based in Kyrgyzstan, but will also officially represent the republic in another country. Instead of permanently residing abroad, the diplomat will travel on working trips several times a year to meet with foreign colleagues and promote joint projects," said Kulubaev.
The minister explained that maintaining a full-fledged embassy with an office, staff housing, insurance, and transportation is very expensive for the state. He cited Germany, where Kyrgyzstan already has a fully-fledged representative office, as an example of an effective presence.
At the same time, a new format has been proposed for countries with a smaller volume of cooperation but promising projects. Iceland could be one of the first countries to test this mechanism.
