Kyrgyzstan to provide Kazakhstan with 580 mln cubic meters of water

Bishkek, April 29, 2025. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan will supply 580 million m³ of water to Kazakhstan during the 2025 irrigation season. Such an agreement was reached during the 35th meeting of the Commission of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan on the use of interstate water management facilities on the Chu and Talas rivers, which was held in Almaty.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan, the meeting was held with the participation of Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic Bakyt Torobaev and Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.

During the meeting, the delegations of the two countries discussed the implementation of water intake schedules from interstate sources and facilities on the Chu and Talas rivers, the current status of work completed on water management facilities as of April 2025, as well as issues of shared co-financing by Kazakhstan for the operation and maintenance of these facilities. Other issues of bilateral cooperation in the water sector were also touched upon.

Following the talks, a protocol of the meeting was signed, according to which Kyrgyzstan will supply 580 million m³ of water to Kazakhstan during the 2025 irrigation season.

The agreements reached are aimed at effective water resource management and ensuring stable water supply in agricultural regions of both countries during the irrigation season.
